MaryBeth taught Middle School Language Arts in both public and private schools for 12 years. During that time she also taught freshman composition and literature classes at Elon University and the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. But, despite the intellectual challenge and opportunity that teaching at the collegiate level offered, her heart always led her back to the middle school classroom. MaryBeth was essential to integrating technology and social media in her district Language Arts curriculum, and she co-led the implementation of a blog portfolio program with her middle school students. She has always been a firm believer in the power of technology to augment and enhance learning and is always on the lookout for ways to improve learning.
After 12 years in the classroom, MaryBeth stepped away from education and began to pursue a career using her writing and education background in a new and challenging way. She wanted to continue to help students and teachers grow, and that led her to Performance Matters. As a member of the team at Performance Matters, MaryBeth crafts and coordinates content with clients as well as our in-house educators, ensuring that our readers and clients receive the highest quality thought leadership available.
MaryBeth graduated from the State University of New York – Cortland with a BA in Secondary English Education and an MA in English Literature. Before she ran out of academic steam, she also completed her coursework and comprehensive exams for a PhD in 19th Century American Literature at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro.
